EV charging for exotics in Fairfield County

Charging the i8: a Fairfield County guide

BMW i8 hybrid powertrain runs roughly 20 miles on battery and 300+ on the V3 turbo. Here is where to top off — and where the country club outlets are if you belong.

The BMW i8 is a hybrid, not a pure EV, but if you want to run it electric — quiet through the backcountry, silent up the Greenwich driveways, the full carbon-fiber cabin without the turbo — you need to know where the chargers are. Fairfield County is better covered than most people think. Here is the field map.

The Tesla Supercharger network

Three Supercharger locations cover Fairfield County: Stamford at the I-95 exit 9 complex (twelve stalls, reliably empty weekday mornings), Norwalk on East Avenue (eight stalls, fills up Friday afternoons), and Westport on the Post Road (six stalls, covered, well lit). The i8 ships with a CCS adapter pre-loaded in the trunk for every reservation — Tesla stalls are only half of the network but they are the most reliable.

EVgo and ChargePoint stations

Greenwich Plaza has two 50kW DC fast-charge stalls tucked at the back of the garage — the fastest charge in downtown Greenwich and the closest to the Avenue. Darien commuter lot has four Level-2 stalls, free while you catch a Metro-North. Westport Library has two Level-2 stalls, free during library hours. ChargePoint app pre-set on the i8 when you reserve; the membership covers both networks.

Country club chargers (member access only)

The quietest charge is the one at your club. Belle Haven has two member-only outlets by the golf entrance. Round Hill has one outlet in the main lot. Tamarack — the newest — installed four Level-2 stalls last spring. If you are a member, your card works; if your host is a member, we can coordinate. If you want to confirm before pickup, the concierge will call ahead.

The Greenwich-to-Manhattan fast-charge route

If the plan is Greenwich to a Manhattan dinner: leave with a full battery, stop at the Stamford Supercharger for twenty minutes (zero to eighty percent), then I-95 south into the city. Total travel: one hour drive, twenty-five minute charge. The i8 holds range better on the Merritt than the interstate — take the Merritt if the clock allows.

Every i8 reservation ships pre-charged with CCS adapter in the trunk. Tell us the destination and the concierge pre-loads the nearest chargers into the i8 nav; tell us the overnight stop and we confirm the outlet before pickup.
